Thomas’ keen interest is to promote sustainability and societal development through public- and private sector activities and working in the public/private-sector interface.
He holds an MSc in economics (1995) and MSc in Public Policy and Management (2003) and has 23+ years of experience from management and consultancy positions in private and public organisations. He has carried out +75 consultancy assignments during his career, often as team leader or process leader.
Through this, he has gained substantial experience with:
• strategy and organizational analysis • process-implementation support • cross-thematic programme development, challenge funds, and grant mechanisms • performance reviews • policy and institutional assessment • risk assessment and management • reporting and managing for results.
He has plenty experience working in multi-disciplinary settings and teams and using cross-disciplinary approaches – ways of work he values and views as key for the impact and sustainability of public and private action. Often he performs in the interface between political and professional concerns.
Before establishing TJT Consult, Thomas served as Chief Advisor in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, coordinating design of policy and strategy-inputs, leading development of aid-management concepts and guidelines, and leading the quality assurance field-level programmes across various sectors. Previously he worked 8 years for COWI, including as Deputy Head of the Department of Governance and Institutional Development. Earlier he worked as manager in Nordic Consulting Group’s Uganda office; the Danish Environmental Protection Agency; and the United Nations.
He has lived and worked in Uganda, Mozambique, USA, and Brazil, and has work experience from a large number of countries in Africa and Asia.
